ACCA hosted a forum on Hepatitis B at its Surry Hills service centre in partnership with the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District on 26 July 2017 aiming to raise public awareness of the disease. Over 100 people attended the forum.

ACCA President, Ms Shirley Chan gave a welcoming speech to the attendees. Shirley also thanked the special guest for the event Mr Alex Greenwich MP, Member for Sydney for his unwavering support to ACCA in carrying out its community services. Shirley mentioned that ACCA feels very privileged to hold this forum for the Chinese community and to raise awareness of the infectious disease in the community.

A patient of Hepatitis B shared her experience with the audience and explained how she overcame the difficulties and moved on in life. She said that it was important to be positive and seek the advice of a doctor.

A guest speaker, Ms Ling Zhang, a clinical consultant, advised the audience to seek medical advice and that vaccination is the most effective protection against Hepatitis B. She mentioned that Hepatitis B is the most common liver infection in the world. The infection rate is high in multicultural communities in Australia including the Chinese community.
