On Wednesday 29th March 2017, the ACCA City Seniors Group celebrated the NSW Seniors Festival with a one-day excursion visiting a nature reserve and wildlife park.

After 10 consecutive days of raining, it was a welcome change when the sun started to shine in the morning and throughout the day. About 120 participants assembled in the early morning at Central Station, waiting for two buses to pick them up. ACCA President Ms Shirley Chan and director Mr Franklin Choi were the special guests at this event.

As the first stop, the group visited Sir Joseph Banks Park in Botany Bay. The park is a popular nature reserve covering 28 hectares and provides a valuable habitat for native birds and other wildlife. With the beautiful backdrop, the seniors took lots of photos and selfies and they thoroughly enjoyed their time at this nature reserve.

Thereafter the group proceeded to the Penrith RSL Club for a buffet lunch. The group enjoyed their lunch together and there were lots of laughter and joy.

The third and final stop was Chang Lai Yuan Chinese Garden (or Nurragingy Reserve) in Doonside, Western Sydney. In addition to exploring this scenic wildlife park, the event also included lucky draws for the participants. Forty lucky participants were fortunate to win a $10 gift card each!

The day was hot and sweltering but that did not stop our participants from enjoying the flowers, wildlife and scenery of Chinese themed architecture at Nurragingy Reserve.

Thank you to the volunteers and the Seniors Group committee members, especially Emily Huang and Mimi Kwok for organising this wonderful event.

Let’s do more together!
